America: The Beautiful

America The Beautiful is a video performance that questions vanity and capitalism with regard to stereotypes of the money hungry "all-american." This falsehood is projected on society through media, and I disagree with these generalized projections that are so prominent in our culture. Everyday we are raised on television telling us that one day we will be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. Mass media tells us what to look like, how to dress, and what to buy. This piece asks: "what for?" It is intended to spark self reflection and to ask ourselves if we are media victims.
