My
research
focuses on the intersection of religion and economy in
Latin
America. In particular, I am interested in the growth of charismatic,
person-centered spirituality that I call "direct faith."
Since
1998,
I have undertaken fieldwork in Tzintzuntzan,
Mexico.
My
first book
examines the conversion of Roman Catholics to evangelical
Protestantism.
Currently, I am working on a project that documents how
a
multi-level
nutritional supplement company called Omnilife
has employed
religious
techniques
to motivate its distributors.
At
OU, I teach
the graduate courses Theories of Culture and Dissertation Writing
and the
undergraduate
courses Introduction to Socio-Cultural Anthropology,
Anthropology of Religion, and Cultures
of Latin America.
