Upright logs placed in postholes formed the walls of Plains Village houses. Smaller limbs, grass thatch and clay plaster were used to finish the walls. Roofs were grass thatch. Houses that were burned, either intentionally or by accident, provide many clues about construction and design. Charred wood and thatch and baked clay are often found at these sites.
