Background:

Dr. Mekada Graham is Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at The University of Oklahoma in Tulsa.   Mekada has held teaching positions at California State University and the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.  She has published numerous articles in scholarly journals in the UK and USA including the British Journal of Social Work, European Journal of Social Work and the Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare and Journal of Black Studies. .  She has written and researched widely on social work and black communities including African-centered approaches to social work.
 
Mekada’s research activities incorporate interdisciplinary studies of Critical Race Theory, Africana Studies, Womanism, Critical Perspectives in Social Policy and Social Work.  Mekada’s recent research promotes sociological models of childhood as a way of giving voice to children in child welfare and she regularly presents her work to national and international audiences.
  
She is author of Social Work and African-centered Worldviews (2002) published by British Association of Social Workers, Venture Press and Black Issues in Social Work and Social Care (2007) published by University of Bristol Press in the UK. 
Mekada is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Black Studies and international advisory board of Journal of Ethics and Social Welfare and Social Work Education: an International Journal. 

Research Interests:
2000 Received award for best scholarly article in journals at the Cheikh    Anta Diop Conference, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA.
