Bali

We started our Balinese trip in Ubud, which has great food, music, dance,
monkeys (!), and scenery.  Central Bali is gorgeous, with rice terracing
and palm trees covering the hills.

The Balinese use ducks to help fertilize flooded rice paddies.
The ducks are led out to
the paddies in the morning, and then congregate
by a flag at dusk, waiting to be led back home.

We really enjoyed the Balinese gamelan music, especially the giant bamboo
gamelan called
jegog.  The musicians sit on the instruments
and bang away, as pictured below.
