Rwandan Primates

rw1

We went on 3 primate treks in Volcanoes National Park, which is in
Northwestern Rwanda.  The park overlaps into the Congo and Uganda.
Two trips were to see families of mountain gorillas. Each time required
a 2 hour + trek uphill through the forest, but it was more than worth it!!

The babies seemed to like to show off for their guests.

rw2

The juvenile males liked to show off in their own way...
rw3

We saw some amazing stuff!!
rw4

On our second trek, we came to this "clearing" and saw
the family spread out on the hill.

rw5

The silverback gave us the once over and decided we were cool.

rw6

There are very few things cuter than a baby gorilla.

rw7

Case in point...

rw8

Our third trip was to see another endangered primate, the
Golden Monkey.

rw9

They are bamboo eaters that live higher up on the volcanoes
than the gorillas.
rw10

They have amazing coloration.

rw11

Here is a view of the volcanoes where we hiked to see these animals.
