Rwandan Primates

We went on 3 primate treks in Volcanoes National Park, which is in
Northwestern Rwanda. The park overlaps into the Congo and Uganda.
Two trips were to see families of
mountain gorillas. Each time required
a 2 hour + trek uphill through the forest, but it was more than worth
it!!
The babies seemed to like to show off for their guests.

The juvenile males liked to show off in their own way...

We saw some amazing stuff!!

On our second trek, we came to this "clearing" and saw
the family spread out on the hill.

The silverback gave us the once over and decided we were
cool.

There are very few things cuter than a baby gorilla.

Case in point...

Our third trip was to see another endangered primate, the
Golden Monkey.

They are bamboo eaters that live higher up on the
volcanoes
than the gorillas.

They have amazing coloration.

Here is a view of the volcanoes where we hiked to see
these animals.
