My version of the love stories will convey the
feelings of the women as they are falling in love and during their
relationship
with the man they are in love with. The stories I will be
retelling in my storybook will be written as diary
entries to show the feelings of the women. The diary entries will be
written by the
women of the Indian Epics. I will also be adding more specific
details to
the stories so that it might possibly give the story more insight into
the
women's lives. For the first two love
stories, I have chosen two important relationships from the
Ramayana. The first is a one-sided love story of Rama
and Surpanakha. The second love story is about Rama and
Sita. I was drawn to both of the love stories
because they are very important love stories in the Indian Epics.
The thrid story is about Draupadi and her Swayamvara. I have
taken her story out of the Mahabharata. I have also taken a
another story out of the Mahabharata. It is the fourth story of
the storybook. It is the love story of Nala and Damayanti.
The first story, Unrequited Love, focuses on a woman in
love
with a man who does not feel the
same about her. Surpanakha is the woman in the first story.
She has
extremely strong feelings for Rama. Rama is already married to a
woman he
loves and cherishes. Surpanakha has a hard time dealing with it
and does
not give up on her love for Rama.
In the second story, Our Destiny Awaits, Sita falls in love with Rama at first sight. She makes herself sick not knowing who he is. Sita yearns to know who this man is that makes her heart skip a beat by just thinking about him. They fall in love and are totally committed to one another. This story is one of a shared love and one of loyalty.
The two stories are different in their version of love. No matter
how
different the two seem, they both share a similarity. That similarity
is the
brilliance of Rama and how this characteristic makes women fall in love
with
him. The one-sided love story of
Surpanakha and Rama is not exactly the happiest love story of all time;
however,
it stands as an example of how women cling to Rama and his
brilliance. In comparison to this type of love, Sita and
Rama share a different kind. The kind of
love between them is mutual. Still, as
Sita first laid eyes upon Rama she went crazy and could not think of
anything
but Rama. Even though Rama shared the
same feelings towards Sita, he still cast his spell on her as
well.
In the third story, Draupadi's Day,
Draupadi has her Swayamvara to give someone the chance to win her hand
in marriage. Draupadi knows who she doesn't want to win, however,
she has no idea who should win. Someone finally wins and she is
promised to him. This story is one that carries with it the
element of surprise.
In the fourth story, Hopeless Romantic,
Damayanti yearns for love. She sees it all around her. One
day a swan visits her. The swan informs her of a special man,
Nala. She has her swayamvara soon afterwards. During the
swayamvara, her choice of husband may or may not surprise you.
Now, let’s talk about Surpanakha again and see more in dept her feelings for Rama.
