Course descriptions:
G4463: Ecology of Lakes. Prerequisites: CHEM 1315 and 1415, PHYS 1114, 2414, or 2514, and ZOO 3403 or BOT 3453, or permission, or permission. An introduction to the biology, chemistry, physics and geology of freshwater environments, with emphasis on ecology. (Spring even-numbered years)

G4463: Ecology of Lakes

Time/Place: Monday/Wednesday from 1:30-2:45 p.m. / 111 Sutton Hall
Course Objective:
To provide students with a broad overview of the field of limnology (the study of inland waters) via classroom lectures, readings from the primary literature and classroom discussions by:
• Helping students develop an understanding and appreciation of lake and stream ecosystems, focusing on major abiotic and biotic components and their ecological interactions,
• Introducing students to the basic and applied ecology of lake and stream ecosystems,
• Introducing students to the key scientific approaches used to study and manage lake and stream ecosystems, and
• Introducing students to major scientific papers in the field of freshwater ecology. Text:
Readings will be assigned from Dodson, S. I. 2005. An Introduction to Limnology. McGraw Hill, Boston, as well as from the primary literature. |
