To Students Looking For Graduate Schools: |
|
I would like to hear from students who have (1) good to excellent academic records in natural sciences; (2) field research experience; (3) dedication to understanding vertebrate conservation and ecology; and (3) self motivation. I am unlikely to agree to advise students who apply to the Department of Zoology without contacting me first. |

I occasionally have research funding to support graduate students on research assistantships. More commonly, however, students are supported via teaching assistantships. Most of these asistantships pay about $15,500 for 10 months of half time work. Of course if you have your own funding then I'd love to hear from you! |

In my opinion, most students who have recently completed their bachelor's degree and want to pursue a career in field-based research ought to enroll in a Master of Science degree program. Rarely do students complete an undergraduate curriculum with the type of field experience and quantitative tools required to excel as doctoral students. |

I have a number of research interests listed on my web page. If these are things you are interested in then I'd be happy to hear from you. However, I think Graduate Students need to develop independent projects rather than just plug into an ongoing project. I am interested in working with students who follow their own curiostiy. |
