sF Proceratiinae Proceratium

Proceratium are tiny relatively common ants of the litter. Jack Longino's Proceratium pages reviews Browns discussion of its intriuging foraging habits--apparently gathering and storing spider eggs in much the same way that Pogonomyrmex stores seeds. I have collected only micrommatum in BCNM, but at least two species are likely.

micrommatum Roger 1863
Litter--
Petiolar node "bun-shaped," broad at the base, with anterior and posterior faces converging to a rounded summit; mid-tibia lacking a pectinate apical spur (Ward 1988).
silaceum Roger 1863
Litter--
Petiolar node in the form of a thick, erect scale, with anterior and posterior faces subparallel.
