Course Description:
  • 3843 Topics in National Cinemas. Analytical study of exemplary motion pictures from the Hispanic world.  We will view and discuss Spanish, Mexican, Brazilian, Argentine, Ecuadorian, and Colombian films from the last decade (1991-2001). 
Grading Practices:
  • Attendance, class participation, and 4 brief  essays (one per evaluation period) on any of the films to be viewed in class.  Other options may be discussed with the instructor. 
    Addenda:


    • Students with disabilities:  Any student in this course who has a disability that may prevent him or her from fully demonstrating his or her abilities should contact me personally as soon as possible so we can discuss accomodations necessary to ensure full participation and facilitate your educational opportunities.
    • Academic misconduct:  Students should be aware that academic misconduct entails severe penalties and the resentment of honest students.  For your information, "Academic misconduct includes (a) cheating (using unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise), plagiarism, falsification of records, unauthorized possession of examinations, intimidation, and any and all other actions that may improperly effect the evaluation of a student's academic performance or achievement; (b) assisting others in any such act; or (c) attempts to engage in such acts."  Student Code Book, p. 21.  For any such act of misconduct charge must be made. If the charge is proven, the instructor assigns a predetermined grade penalty (maximum of F) and the Provost may take disciplinary action as severe as permanent expulsion.  For more detailed information, consult the Student Code Book.
