AFFIRMATIVE PRESENT
PERFECT PROGRESSIVE CONSTRUCTIONS & NEGATIVE PRESENT PERFECT CONSTRUCTIONS
WITH HACE:
The expression using the following formula: hace
+ time unit + que
+ verb in thepresent
indicative is tantamount to the present
perfect progressive construction in Spanish:
-
Hace dos
años que vivo
en Norman, Oklahoma. I have been living
in Norman, Oklahoma, for two years.
That notwithstanding, the negative variant: hace
+ time unit + que + neg.
+ verb in the present
ind. is tantamount to a present perfect(but
not
progressive) construction:

Hace dos añosque
no veo a Juan. I have not
seen John in two years.
The same result may be obtained with the formula: verbin
the present ind. + desde
+ date:
-
Trabajo en Target's desdeayer.
I have been working at Target's
since yesterday.
The negative formula: neg. + verbin
the present ind. + desde
+ hace + time unit is
equivalent to a present perfect
(non-progressive) action:

No trabajo desde hace un año.
I have not worked in a year.
The formula: llevar (in present
ind.) + time unit + gerund
is equivalent to a present perfect progressive
action:

SIMPLE PAST TENSE
CONSTUCTIONS WITH HACE:
The formula hace + time unit
+ verb in the preterite is tantamount
to a simple past construction in Spanish:

Hace dos horas que
vine a clase. I came
to class two hours ago.
The same result may be obtained if you start with the verb in the preterite
(the conjunction que is elided in this case since no further connection
is required):

Vine a clase hace

horas. I came to class
two hours ago.
