Course Description:
This is the only seminar on the Spanish Enlightenment you will ever need.
It covers the main figures of the 18th century as well as ALL the authors
and works in the Spanish MA reading list. The 18th century is the
beginning of the modern period as we know it today. We will read
and analyze scientific and socio-political essays (the essay being the
most important genre of the century), dramas (in the traditional, neo-classical,
and popular styles), a novel, a poetics (a didactic work), and some poetry.
Grading Practices:
25% - Midterm
50% - Two brief research papers (ca. 10 pp. each) in MLA style
25% - Final examination
