Demi, Carnation, Washington,
is an award-winning author/illustrator of children’s books that are well known
for elegant texts and illustrations with exquisite details in the traditional
styles of their represented cultures. Among her picture books are The Empty Pot;
Buddha; The Dalai Lama; The Legend of Saint Nicholas; Gandhi, which was named a
New York Times Best Illustrated Book and received an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio
Platinum Award; Muhammad, which was named Kirkus Editors' Choice and Booklist
Editors' Choice selections; and One Grain of Rice, which won the Red Clover and
Black-Eyed Susan children’s choice awards. Her most recent works include
The Hungry Coat: A Tale from Turkey (2004) and Mother Teresa (2005). |

Russell Freedman, New York City,
New York, is a nonfiction writer who prefers to be called a "factual
author" and whose compelling books enrich learning environments
of young people and inspire their personal reading. Among his nearly
50 books are Lincoln: A Photobiography (Newbery Medal); Eleanor Roosevelt:
A Life of Discovery (Newbery Honor); The Wright Brothers (Newbery Honor);
and The Voice That Challenged a Nation: Marian Anderson and the Struggle
for Equal Rights (Newbery Honor and the Robert F. Sibert Informational
Book Award). His recent works include Give me Liberty!: The Story of
the Declaration of Independence and In Defense of Liberty: The Story
of the American Bill of Rights and Children of the Depression (2005).
ALA has selected Russell Freedman to deliver the 2006 Arbuthnot Honor
Lecture. |

Pam Muñoz Ryan, San Diego, California,
is a popular and award-winning author of more than twenty-five books
for young people. Her works often present characters in family relationships
and explore the Mexican culture, especially the life and art of Oaxaca.
Her well-known novel Esperanza Rising won the Pura Belpre Medal and
the Jane Addams Peace Award and was also an ALA Top Ten Best Book
for Young Adults and the Americas Award Honor Book. Her picture books
for the very young and picture books for older readers, include the
award-winning Amelia and Eleanor Go For A Ride and When Marian Sang,
the recipient of the ALA Sibert Honor and NCTE's Orbis Pictus Award.
Among her most recent works is Becoming Naomi Leon (2005).

Registration
Until October 21st, registration for the presentations is $55.00 and the
luncheon fee is $20.00. After October 21st, on-site registration for presentations
only is $60.00. Conference packets will provide documentation for continuing
education.
