Format

•  Your paper should be approximately 5-6 pages long, double-spaced, 12 font-size. 
•  Your paper should be typed or word-processed; no handwritten manuscripts will be accepted.
•  You are required to find at least two outside academic sources (books, journal articles) to complement your course textbooks, lectures, and videos.
•  Your paper should follow the macro-mechanics of an essay (introduction, body, and conclusion) and be written in acceptable standard English and correct spelling.
•  The documentation style for this paper is MLA. Research sources must be well documented, even when these are limited to the book per se, your course textbooks, and lectures.
•  Give your paper an appropriate title.
•  The paper is due in class on Monday, Oct. 30, 12:30 p.m. Papers are to be handed in promptly; late papers will be graded down half a letter grade per day of delay.
•  Keep a copy of your paper before you hand one to your instructor.

The paper should draw lines of comparison between either The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andric and the subject matter of this course as presented in textbooks, lectures, discussion, and film.  It is an assignment of critical thinking with elements of research.

The paper should demonstrate your ability to develop a clear line of discussion leading to sustainable conclusions.  You are expected to show familiarity with sources and accurate command of information.

Possible approaches include, but are not limited to, answers of the following questions:

1)Apart from being a literary masterpiece, The Bridge on the Drina is a documentary, portraying in a realistic manner major events of Balkan history. Identify which of the events studied in this course are depicted in the novel. 

2)Spanning generations, nationalities, and creeds, The Bridge on the Drina portrays a society of enormous ethnic and religious diversity. Using characters from the book, outline the major nationalities living in Bosnia and characterize their relations.
