I am an associate professor of English at the University of Oklahoma. I teach courses in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century British literature. I also have a secondary interest in postcolonial literatures, especially Asia and Africa. I have published a book on English literary and political cultures, Literature and the Politics of Family in Seventeenth-Century England (Cambridge University Press, 2007). I am now working on a second book on early modern empire, Global Renaissance: Early Modern Classicism and Empire from the British Isles to the Malay Archipelago, a project that has been supported by year-long fellowships at the Radcliffe Institute and the National Humanities Center.
