Research and Teaching Interests My interests explore the links between nationalism, geopolitics and information and communication technologies (ICTs.) As technology is a social structure, using ICTs can foster new forms of identity, new forms of conflict, and direct challenges to the power of the state to maintain control of space, territory, and societies. I also have interests in economic geography, in particular the use of ICTs to change place images and foster both foreign direct investment and tourism flows. Additional work on credit union fields of membership has yielded several presentations and publications. Additionally, I started as a
geography major near the end
of the Cold War, and thus specialized in what was then termed Eastern
Europe and the Soviet Union, and continue to have an active interest in
the region.
Examples of research publications and
presentations
can be found in my CV.
