Professor Ron Peters joined the Department of Political Science in 1976. He was director of the Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center at the University of Oklahoma from 1979 to 2000. He was chair of the Department of Political Science from 1994 to 2002.
He is co-author, with Professor Cindy Simon Rosenthal, of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the New American Politics (Oxford University Press, 2010). His other publications include The Massachusetts Constitution of 1780, The American Speakership: The Office in Historical Perspective, and The Next Generation: Dialogues Between Leaders and Students. Editor and author of two chapters in The Speaker: Leadership in the U. S. House of Representatives and co-editor with Allen Hertzke of The Atomistic Congress. Publications have appeared in The Political Science Reviewer, The Encyclopedia of American Political Parties, Journal of Legislative Studies,and The Encyclopedia of the United States Congress. Current research interests are in the study of congressional leadership.
Professor Peters received a Regents' Teaching Award in 1994. He was named Outstanding Oklahoma Political Scientist for 1995.
