Professor Peters's research interests are in the study of congressional leadership.  His main focus has been on the speakership of the United States House of Representatives.  He has also written on congressional committee leadership. He has recently written on the application of private and public sector management theories to legislative leadership. He is currently working on articles on congressional party organizations in the U.S. House and on the historical evolution of the speakership.
