Proposal:
Introduction to SCORM
Audience
My audience for this course are IDT students, my peers, especially those students who interested in working in online learning, online education. Prerequisite skills needed for this course is basic understanding of instructional design and instructional design concepts. To access to the course, users must have internet access. Since this course is not required, people who have interested in attending would be students with great learning attitude and believing in success based on hard working.
Instructional Goal
Course participant would be able to:
- Familiar with SCORM fundamental concepts.
- Know how to find SCORM resources on the internet
- And be able to apply SCORM compliance requirements in developing online courses
Specific Objectives
- Given the instructional content, participant should be able to identify various concepts of SCORM.
- Student should be able identify a Manifest file
- Given instructional content, Student should be able to describe what Meta data should be.
- Participants should be able to list major websites where they can find resources for SCORM.
Rationale
According to my interaction with couple graduate students from IDT program, I found that they have not had much knowledge about SCORM.
For instructional presentation project, I would like to create a online course introducing SCORM. SCORM is a set of technical standard to package and deliver e-software product. Having basic about SCORM and be able to apply the standards into creating e-learning instructions that can be reusable, and can be shared are great skills that an instructional designer must have. It would be great to construct a study case using SCORM in D2L, since it's the LMS that OU is providing.
Description of the Unit
- Instructional Content
- Manifest file
- Meta data
- Sequencing and navigation
- Run-time environment
Anticipated Problems
Gaining participant in interested in taking this course would be a great challenge. Finding information and minimize the instructional content for the course spending time would be other challenges.
How will learning be evaluated?
Multiple choice and short questions assessment will be given to student’s understanding about SCORM.
