His lifeHernan Henao Delgado was born in Manizales, Colombia in 1945. He completed an undergraduate degree in Anthropology at the Universidad Nacional in Bogotá. In 1979 he received a Masters degree in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley. For more than twenty years he had been a professor of anthropology at the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia. He conducted research on numerous anthroplogical subjects including indigenous communities in Colombia, anthropology of the Colombian family, youth cultures in Colombia, Colombian images of men and masculinity, and cultures of violence and peace among young Colombians.
His deathOn May 4 1999 two men and a woman stormed in the offices of the Instituto de Estudios Regionales (Institute for Regional Studies) located on the campus of the Universidad de Antioquia. They forced Professor Henao out of a conference room where he was participating at a faculty meeting and in the lobby of the Institute shot him three times in the head.
