PRESENTATION INFORMATION:

The 2006 Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner, "A Celebration of Education in Oklahoma" recognized students, faculty and honorees for their service and contributions to the field of education. Special honorees for 2006 included Sandra O'Brien, Charlotte A. Jones, Jean McCasland, Timonthy A. Laubach, and William H. Gates Sr., education advocate and co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Kathleen Rager received the Junior Faculty Award.

Dr. Rager is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. She holds a doctoral degree from Kansas State University in Philosophy in Adult and Continuing Education. She joined the faculty of the College of Education Fall 2001. Dr. Rager is a past recipient of the Junior Faculty Research Program Award and in 2004 was awarded by her colleagues in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies that department's Valued Colleague Award.

Dr. Rager's current research is centered on self-directed learning. Her study of the independent learning experiences of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer has resulted in five publications in leading adult education journals, including the highly competitive Adult and Higher Education Quarterly, Educational Researcher and the International Journal of Lifelong Education. In nominating Dr. Rager for this award, one colleague succinctly noted that she was "the definition of the emergent scholar" and that her research "is making an impact nationally."
