ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp at the University of Oklahoma
During the summer of 2009, The University of Oklahoma, The Harris Foundation and the ExxonMobil Foundation will come together to provide a free, academic camp for students entering grade 6,7, or 8 in the fall of 2009. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are critical to society’s infrastructure for the 21st century and preserving that future requires an investment, such as the BHSSC, in our youth today.
Earth Cycles: A Whole Earth Approach to STEM
At the University of Oklahoma, this camp is named Earth Cycles. This camp is offered by Precollegiate Programs and the Conoco-Phillips School of Geology and Geophysics. During the camp, students will spend two weeks exploring how Earth’s natural cycles affect their lives and the world around them while being exposed to science, math, engineering and technology. During the camp students will have the opportunity to collect fossils, study pond life, make models of tornadoes, explore rocks, forecast weather and explore technology and how it impacts science and society. Students will go on field trips to natural wonders, visit museums, and be exposed to research labs, all the while living in the dorms on the University of Oklahoma campus.
If you feel your child would be interested in such a camp, contact Amy Logan alogan@ou.edu or Mike Soreghan msoreg@ou.edu for additional information.
