Todd Sandel
is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at
the University of Oklahoma, and past President of the Association for Chinese Communication Studies. His research interests include:
Intercultural communication, language and social interaction,
family communication, and Taiwanese/Chinese studies. His
work has
appeared in: Ethos, Western
Journal of Communication, Language in Society, Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, Journal of Family Communication, Social Development, and Parenting.
He is the
recipient of four top paper awards from the Language and
Social Interaction Divisions of the National Communication Association and International Communication Association,
and of a two-year research grant from the Chiang
Ching-kuo Foundation to study Mother Tongue Preservation in Taiwan and the US.
Finally, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study "Transnational Families" in Taiwan and was be affiliated with National Chiao-Tung University in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He lived in Taiwan from August, 2007 to June, 2008.
