The Ottomans (1288-1920)

A dynasy of Central Asian Turkish origin that became established in what is now Turkey, and grew to dominate most of the Muslim world. The Ottomans conquered the Balkans, taking Constantinople in 1453, and went on to lay siege to Vienna. They eventually claimed the title of Caliph. World War I ended in the rise of a secular Turkish state and the division of Ottoman provinces among European powers.
