Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti (1445-1505)

A prolific Egyptian scholar of the Shafi`ite school of law, who wrote on virtually all fields of Islamic thought, including history, Sufism, the Qur'anic sciences, tafsir, hadith, fiqh, and usul al-fiqh. He is not remembered for modesty. He wrote a Qur'an commentary on suras 2-17 to complete the "Commentary of the Two Jalals," which had been started by his teacher Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli.
