The madhhabs (schools of law)

The four schools (or traditions) of Sunni Islamic law in existence today are the Malikites, the Hanafites, the Shafi`ites, and the Hanbalites.  Other ancient schools have died out (e.g. the Zahirites and the Jarirites.)
