The second king of Israel (in the 10th century BCE), whose reign is regarded
by Jews as Israel's golden age. God's promise that his line would rule forever
contributed
to the expectation of a Messiah who would restore the Davidic kingship. Muslims
count him a prophet whose revealed book was the Psalms.
