Exegesis or interpretation of a text from the Hebrew Bible, by Jewish scholars.
More specifically, Midrash refers to a collection of interpretations by Rabbis, known as Midrash Rabbah, compiled during the 2d to 7th centuries, consisting of interpretations of the books of Genesis (called Genesis Rabbah), Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Ruth, Esther, Lamentations, Song of Songs, and Ecclesiastes.
