A prophet mentioned in the Qur'an (e.g. Q 7:73-79), but not known from other texts. He was sent to the people of Thamud (who are otherwise unknown), calling them to worship God alone and cease "making mischief" in the land. He designated a certain she-camel as sacred, to be allowed free pasture; but his opponents hamstrung her in defiance of his warning, and were destroyed by some catastrophe like an earthquake.
