Our custom built gas chromatography oven measures 4" x 4" x 6" (bottom center of photo below). This small oven can be heated as rapidly as 300 °C/min for temperature programmed separations. After a separation, repetitive injection analysis is facilitated by using liquid nitrogen to cool the oven at a rate of about 600 °C/min in order to reset the oven temperature for the next separation. By choosing subambient initial temperatures, mixture components are cryogenically focused at the column head upon injection, resulting in narrow chromatogram peak widths.
