| Mentoring: Dr. Zaman serve as the "mentor" of three assistant professors (Drs. Muralee, Miller, and Mooney) during their early years at OU. His mentee, Dr. Muralee and Dr. Mooney, received the prestigious Career Awards from NSF. As the senior member, Dr. Zaman provides leadership to the group and tries to always leads by examples. The geotechinical group meets periodically to discuss the on-going activities, program direction and opportunities. This is one of the most active, productive, and dynamic group within the School of CEES. |

| Faculty Sponsor of Student Association: Dr. Zaman currently serves as the faculty sponsor of two major student associations at the University of Oklahoma: Bangladesh Student Association (since 1982) and Muslim Student Association (since 1994). Both of these student organizations bring cultural diversity to campus and are very active on campus. In the early 1980's, Bangladesh Student Association planned and successfully collected funds ($5,000) to build a high school (6th grade to 10th grade) in Bangladesh. This school, called Marua-Oklahoma High School (in Bangladesh 10th grade is under high school) has been in operation for more than ten years and has become a part of the government school system. Dr. Zaman also served as the faculty sponsor for the OU Vietnamese Student Association (Aug. 1983 to Dec. 1990). |
